Spinning mill workers block Dhaka-Aricha highway

Around 2,500 workers of Rising Spinning Mill in Manikganj blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway demanding the wage structure set by the government.

They started to block the highway around 9am on Tuesday.

Vehicular movement was suspended for an hour on both sides of the highway. Later, at 10:15am, members of Saturia police station and Golra highway police outpost persuaded the workers to move from the highway.

On condition of anonymity, some workers said that they demanded the salary fixed by the government from the authorities. However, the mill authorities told them that the salary structure given by the government applied only to garment workers. Textile mill workers are not covered under this structure.

Golra Highway police outpost Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sukendu Basu said workers lifted the blockade from the highway on the condition that the owners negotiate with the agitating workers.

Traffic movement is normal on the highway now.
