The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday arrested six people, including Sonatala upazila Awami League president in connection with a case filed for assaulting an independent candidate’s activist in Bogra-1 (Sariakandi-Sonatala) constituency.
Members of RAB-12 arrested them from Saidabad area on Monday night when they were trying to flee to Dhaka.
The arrestees are upazila Awami League President and upazila Chairman Minhaduzzaman Liton, 53, Md Limon, 32, Md Raihan, 28, Md Rana, 26, Md Rajon, 35, and Nipun, 28.
Babu Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonatala police station, said the accused were handed over to the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Bogra.
Among the arrestees, Liton is the younger brother of Awami League candidate for Bogra-1 constituency (Boat) Shahdara Mannan Shilpi.
According to the case statement, some seven to eight Jubo League and Chhatra League men attacked the independent candidate’s activist Rezwanul Haque on December 31. He was later hospitalized.
The same night, the injured activist’s wife filed a case against some 19 people.
