Awami League chief Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reached Sylhet to start her party’s election campaign for the upcoming 12th national parliamentary election scheduled for January 7.
Her flight reached Osmani International Airport at around 11:40am on Wednesday.
She was scheduled to visit the shrines of Hazrat Shah Jalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R).
The prime minister then will join a rally at Alia Madrasah at 2pm.
Security has been increased in the city because of Sheikh Hasina’s visit.
Meanwhile, the city has taken a festive look with leaders and activists of the party eagerly waiting for Sheikh Hasina’s speech.
