Three Bangladeshi youths were injured when the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire along Hatibandha border in Lalmonirhat early Saturday.
The injured are Rony Mia, 22, Shree Sujan, 23, and Hakim Mia, 34.
The incident took place near 901 no pillar adjacent to Daikhawa BOP camp in the upazila.
Lance Naik Md Bashir Ullah of Daikhawa BOP camp said: “A patrol team of BSF opened fire on a group of smugglers when they were smuggling cows through the barbed wire fence, leaving three Bangladeshi ones injured.
“Of the injured, two are receiving treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH). The other companions with them fled, undergoing treatment at an unknown location,” he said.
Lieutenant Colonel Mofazzal Hossain Akand, captain of the 15 BGB Battalion, Lalmonirhat said he was informed that three Bangladeshi cow traders were shot by BSF at the border. The matter is being investigated.
