Rokeya University teacher writes 102 research papers in a year

A teacher at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur has been accused of plagiarizing 102 research papers published by several reputed universities of different countries.

Dr ARM Towfiqul Islam, from the Disaster Management Department, wrote the papers within one year.

A written complaint has been made to the university's vice chancellor, Professor Dr Hasibur Rashid, by a Dhaka-based researcher named Dr AR Khan. He demanded the formation of a probe committee as well.

According to the written complaint, Dr Towfiqul plagiarized 102 research papers from teachers of different reputed universities in China and the Middle East.

He also allegedly plagiarized research papers of Brazil's Dr Guilherme Malafaia in exchange for money. The complaint also demanded that the teacher's bank account be brought under investigation.

In this regard, several teachers of the university said that it is possible to complete a maximum of five to six research papers in a year. However, writing over 100 research papers within one year, averaging one every three days is fraud.

The accused teacher claimed that the allegations brought against him are not true at all. He did not respond to the question on how he prepared a research paper in three days.

VC Prof Rashid said he will look into the allegations seriously. “I have heard about the incident but got no letter in this regard,” he said.
