Police on Saturday arrested the senior joint convener of Bogra District unit Jubo Dal, who has 41 cases filed against him.
The arrestee, Jahangir Alam, was arrested from his house in Dhaka’s Banasree area.
Officers from Bogra Sadar police station, in collaboration with the Detective Branch (DB), carried out an operation to arrest him. Alam was arrested while visiting his daughter, who is currently undergoing treatment for dengue.
Bogra Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Saihan Oliullah said he will be produced before a court soon.
According to police and other sources, Jahangir Alam has recently been implicated in 13 cases related to charges such as arson, assaulting law enforcement, detonating crude bombs, and impeding government operations. Additionally, he faces 28 other cases.
Meanwhile, the Bogra district unit Jubo Dal condemned the arrest of Jahangir Alam in a press release.
They demanded the immediate release of all the arrested leaders and activists, including Jahangir Alam.
Meanwhile, in Moulvibazar, a senior joint convener of Juri Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal has resigned from his post.
Anwar Hossain announced his resignation from BNP on social media platform Facebook on Friday afternoon. Earlier, he collected a nomination form from Trinamool BNP.
In his Facebook post, Hossain wrote: "I am Anwar Hossain Manju. Inspired by patriotism, I was associated with BNP's affiliates Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal for a long time. Now, for purely personal reasons, I have voluntarily resigned from those political positions.”
However, he did not hint if he was joining any other party.
Anwar Hossain has obtained nomination forms from the Trinamool BNP for the Moulvibazar-1 constituency in the upcoming 12th parliamentary election.
