Commuter train set on fire in Tangail

Miscreants set a commuter train on fire parked at Gharinda railway station in Tangail early Thursday on the last day of the 48-hour blockade enforced by BNP.

Three compartments of the train were gutted in the fire.

This incident happened around 3am.

The passengers on the “Panchagarh Express” train got down from the train in fear, as the train was next to the commuter train that was set on fire.

According to station sources, although there are CCTV cameras at Gharinda railway station, the compartments of the train where the incident took place, were outside the CCTV cameras.

Gharinda station master Tariqul Islam said that it is not known who set fire to the train at night.

Two compartments of the commuter train were completely burnt. Besides, another compartment was partially burnt.

Later, fire service personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control.

Md Idris Ali, officer-in-charge of Tangail Fire Service Station, said that three fire service units doused the fire.
