Week-long book fair draws huge crowd in Barisal

The week-long divisional book fair in Barisal drew a huge crowd despite political programs enforced by different parties.

The book fair that began on November 8 at the Bangabandhu Udyan in the city ended on Tuesday.

The inaugural and closing ceremonies of the book fair were attended by Deputy Commissioner Shawkat Ali, among others.

A total of 38 well-known publishing houses, including 19 government institutions, participated in the fair.

Barisal Reporters Unity also participated in the fair and exhibited their collection of books, including ones on the history and development of the newspaper industry.

Besides, a volunteer organization named BD Clean Team held an exchange program, titled "Give Old Books and Take Green Trees". 

Roksana Begum Sathi, a visitor to the book fair, said that she enjoyed the fair, especially the unique initiative by the BD Clean Team.

Masudur Rahman, an organizer of BD Clean Team, thanked the deputy commissioner’s office for assisting them in participating in the fair. 

Mandeep Gharai, additional deputy commissioner (education and ICT) of Barisal, said: “The main aim behind the fair was to make people habituated to reading books and attract them towards books.”
