With the inauguration of the much-awaited 102-kilometre Chittagong-Cox's Bazar dual-gauge single railway line, the question now comes: what would be the name of the first commercial train to Cox’s Bazar.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been presented with six name suggestions to select for the newly launched commercial train traveling from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar and vice versa, said Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan on Saturday.
The six names are Prabal Express, Himchhari Express, Cox’s Bazar Express, Inani Express, Laboni Express, and Saint Martin Express.
"Next December, we will be able to run a commercial train on the route of Dhaka and Cox's Bazar," he said at the inauguration ceremony of Dohazari to Cox's Bazar railway project at Cox's Bazar railway station on Saturday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the line on Saturday, setting yet another milestone in the country's communication network.
The southern region wore a festive look as she unveiled the new rail route for train movement at a ceremony at newly constructed Cox’s Bazar Railway Station.
On her arrival at the venue, the prime minister was received by Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan along with local MPs welcomed her while local artists with traditional songs and dance performed dances and songs.
Md Nurul Islam Sujan presided over the program where Asian Development Bank (ADB) country director for Bangladesh Ginting and Railways Ministry secretary Dr Md Humayun Kabir also spoke at the program.
