At least 294 people have been arrested in 15 cases filed in Narayanganj in connection with arson and vandalism during the hartal and blockade called by the opposition BNP recently.
During this period at least two vehicles were set on fire, and 10 vehicles were vandalized.
One case was filed with the Narayanganj Sadar Model police station, three with Fatullah Model police station, two with Siddhirganj police station, two with Bandar police station, two with Araihazar police station, two with Sonargaon police station and three with Rupganj police station.
A total of 714 BNP leaders and activists have been named in these cases, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Chailau Marma confirmed the matter.
Fresh blockade by BNP
The opposition BNP has announced another 48-hour blockade starting Wednesday morning as the party and its allies enforce a nationwide blockade set to end early on Tuesday.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the party, made the announcement in a virtual press conference on Monday afternoon.
The third phase of the blockade will start at 6am on Wednesday and will continue till Friday 6am.
