Vehicles torched, vandalized in Chittagong during BNP blockade

A bus and a CNG-run autorickshaw were set ablaze in two separate areas of Chittagong early on Monday, the second day of a nationwide blockade initiated by the opposition BNP.

Mohammad Sajim, posted at Anwara fire station, said some unidentified persons set a parked bus on fire in the Chaturi Chowmuhani area of the upazila in the morning. 

two firefighting units arrived at the scene at 5:05am and successfully extinguished the flames within 40 minutes, he said, adding that no one had been injured in the fire.

Anwara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohel Ahmed assured that legal actions would be taken against those responsible for the incident.

At around the same time, an autorickshaw was set on fire and a truck was vandalized in the Panchlaish area of the port city.

Panchlaish police station OC Santosh Kumar Chakma said the police were trying to identify the persons involved and promised legal measures.
