The police have arrested four BNP leaders in Charfesson upazila of Bhola in connection with a fire on a bus in the area at midnight on Saturday.
Hasan Faraji, the driver of the bus, filed a case at Charfesson police station on Sunday noon, without naming anyone.
Charfesson police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shakhawat Hossain said the four BNP leaders were arrested as suspects in the case in raids at different places.
The four arrested BNP leaders are Member Secretary of Charfesson Government College Chatra Dal Habib, Jubo Dal leader Mohiuddin, and Chatra Dal leaders Manju and Mahmud Alam.
The OC also said the four are denying any involvement in the incident, adding that the police will file a remand petition in court to interrogate them in custody.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of Charfesson Upazila BNP Alamgir Malatia said Awami League leaders and activists are setting fire to buses and trapping BNP leaders.
“Our BNP activists are being repressed by the police and activists of the Awami League. With trumped-up cases, they are locking up our leaders and activists.”
