PM to unveil 19 development projects in Chittagong

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to unveil or lay the foundation stones of 19 other development projects during her official visit to Chittagong on Saturday to inaugurate the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River.

According to the district administration, the Prime Minister's inauguration list includes the Bangabandhu Tunnel, the Chittagong Muslim Institute Cultural Complex, the Chittagong Zilla Parishad Tower, Rangunia, and Anwara Zila Parishad Dak Bungalow. Additionally, Sheikh Kamal Auditorium cum Multipurpose Hall in Patiya, the Sheikh Kamal Complex in Raozan, nine high-rise residential buildings in CGS Colony in Agrabad, the Bangabandhu mural at the airport, and the PC girder bridge over the Shikalbaha Canal.

The Rangunia Zilla Parishad Dak Bungalow project stands at 100% completion, with cost estimated at Tk1,63,84,000 and expenditure of Tk1,21,76,000. The Anwara Zila Parishad Dak Bungalow project also boasts a 100% completion status, with an estimated cost of Tk2 crore and expenditure of Tk1,48,21,000.

The Bangabandhu mural at Chittagong Airport, implemented by Chittagong City Corporation, is also complete, with an estimated cost of Tk84 lakh.

The PC girder bridge over the Shikalbaha Canal on Uzirpur Road in Patiya has been successfully completed. This project, carried out by the Local Government Engineering Department, was estimated at Tk49,48,60,000, with expenses totalling Tk45,25,60,000.

The Chittagong Muslim Institute Cultural Complex project, initiated by the Ministry of Culture and implemented by the Directorate of Public Libraries, is progressing well, with an 87% completion rate. The project was allocated Tk28,13,94,800, of which Tk2,07,18,80,000 has already been disbursed.

The Zilla Parishad Tower project has reached 80% completion, with cost estimated at Tk81,29,45,000. The Chittagong District Council is funding this project, having already expended Tk40,22,94,000.

The Sheikh Kamal Auditorium and Multipurpose Hall in Patiya is progressing well at 85% completion. This project, estimated at Tk20,12,61,000, is being managed by the Chittagong Zilla Parishad, with Tk16,09,44,000 spent thus far. The Sheikh Kamal Complex in Raozan has been completed, with cost estimated at Tk7,30,89,000 and expenditure of Tk73,12,71,117.

The multi-storey residential buildings for government officials and employees at CGS Colony in Agrabad are nearing completion, with a project cost of Tk482.93 crore. An expenditure of Tk472.23 crore has been reported.

Moreover, the foundation stone-laying ceremony includes the Liberation War Memorial and Museum in Chittagong, the Jononetri Sheikh Hasina Road from the Airport to the Bangabandhu Tunnel, and the construction of the Siemens Hostel Complex building.

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs will oversee the Liberation War Memorial and Museum project. Chittagong City Corporation will implement the Jononetri Sheikh Hasina Road project, with an estimated cost of Tk25 crore and approximately 50% of the project completed. The construction of the Siemens Hostel Complex building for sailors is estimated to cost Tk59,14,13,000.

Additionally, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various projects implemented by the Chittagong district administration. These include DC Park, the Millennium Boat Museum, 191 union playgrounds and cultural centers, smart school bus services, tourism services including tourist buses, river cruises, and full-day tours, as well as the modernization of bird parks and zoos.

Chittagong District Commissioner Abul Bashar Md Fakhruzzaman said: "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a total of 20 projects during her visit to Chittagong, including the Bangabandhu Tunnel. Seven of these projects fall under the purview of the Chittagong district administration, most of which are near completion. Those projects that remain unfinished will be finalized by June next year."
