Bhairab station master Yusuf on Tuesday said that the collision between two trains in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj was not caused by any signal fault from Bhairab station.
He clarified that the railway signal system is fully computerized, ensuring that two trains cannot be signalled simultaneously.
Signals were only given for the Egarosindur Godhuli Express train departing from Bhairab station; no signal was issued for the freight train to enter the station. Therefore, there was no error in the station's signal system, he added.
Yusuf also mentioned that despite not receiving the entry signal for Bhairab railway station, the freight train entered the station against regulations. Consequently, when the departing Egarosindur train collided, two passenger coaches overturned, resulting in the casualties.
Following the accident, the schedule was slightly disrupted. All trains would resume their regular routes by Tuesday.
Rail communication between Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet has now returned to normalcy after the accident.
On Monday afternoon, at least 17 people were killed and dozens were injured when a cargo train rammed into two bogies of a passenger train at Bhairab Rail Station in Kishoreganj.
The accident took place at 3:50pm when the cargo train hit the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Godhuli Express, which was coming from Kishoreganj.
