Comilla BNP gears up for massive road march Thursday

The opposition BNP is set to organize a road march from Comilla to Chittagong Thursday, as part of its one-point movement to topple the government.

Leaders and activists of neighbouring Chandpur, Noakhali, and Feni districts will also join the road march.

Comilla unit BNP, being the central organizational divisional branch of the party, has witnessed a surge in enthusiasm among its leaders and activists.

The road march will start at 8am on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain will join the meeting from Dhaka.

In preparation for the road march, local BNP leaders are conducting a series of meetings, and posters, banners, and festoons have been prominently displayed at various locations.

There are ongoing preparatory meetings at the ward and union levels as well.

Comilla Metropolitan unit BNP General Secretary Yusuf Molla Tipu said all preparations have already been completed. “The road march will begin with a rally in Kalakchua towards Chittagong. Millions of people from different upazilas of the three organizational branches of the district will join.”

Tareque Munshi, member secretary of Comilla North district unit BNP, said the party’s main goal is to ensure the voting rights of the people by bringing down the government.

At least 30,000 leaders and workers from the district’s north are ready to participate in the road march, he said.

BNP’s Comilla divisional Organizing Secretary Mostaque Mia said: "People are angry with the present government. The party secretary general will give an important message about the next national election from the last road march from Comilla to Chittagong. All the preparations are already done.”

As part of a simultaneous movement demanding the resignation of the Awami League government and elections under a neutral caretaker government, the BNP declared a 15-day program till Thursday.

The road march in Comilla is set to be the last program of the party.
