Fuel traders and workers in the Khulna division suspended their strike after the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) agreed to meet their demands on Sunday.
Sheikh Murad Hossain, general secretary of Khulna Divisional Fuel Oil Distributors Association, said: “The indefinite strike started at 8am to press for our demands. BPC assured us they will meet our demands within one to two days and publish the correct gazette for implementation.”
“Therefore, we postponed the strike and supply from the three depots will resume as usual on Monday morning,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the traders went on an indefinite strike to press home their various demands including hike in commission on fuel sales.
As part of the strike fuel traders of Khulna’s Padma, Meghna and Jamuna oil depots have halted fuel oil extraction as well as transportation to 15 districts.
The demands of the fuel oil traders also include raising the commission on fuel sales to at least 7.5%, setting the economic life of tank-lorry to 30 years from 25 years, and issuing a gazette notification mentioning fuel traders as commission agents as per previous pledges.
On September 3, the fuel oil traders observed a strike to press home their similar demands and subsequently called off the strike upon receiving assurances from the authorities.
