Rohingya youth detained for attempting to get NID card in Barisal

Law enforcers have detained a Rohingya youth for attempting to register his name as a voter in Nalciti Upazila under Jhalokati district and receive a National Identity Card (NID).

Nurul Islam, 23, went to the local election office where he was identified as a non-Bangladeshi.

The police also recovered some fake documents from the youth.

Upazila Election Officer HM Golam Mostafa said that, on Tuesday afternoon, the young man went to the upazila election office and requested to be included in the voter list. However, the official identified him as a non-Bangladeshi after he failed to sing the national anthem as per a request.

Ataur Rahman, Nalciti police station officer-in-charge, said Nurul Islam left the Ukhia Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar during Ramadan last year. Later, he came to Nalciti with the help of a broker named Saiful Islam Tota.
