Awami League leader hacked dead in Bogra

A local Awami League leader was hacked to death at Mathail Chapor in Shahjahanpur upazila of Bogra on Saturday morning.

The deceased was Shahjalal Talukder Parvej, 40, son of a former UP chairman Monsur Rahman Talukder Montu. Parvej was vice president of the ruling Awami League’s local union unit and a lecturer at Koichore Technical and BM College.

Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahjahanpur police station, confirmed the matter.

Some unidentified people riding on a CNG-run autorickshaw chased Parvej down when he was going to Ranirhat on his motorcycle around 10:30am. They caught him and hacked him with sharp weapons.

When he ran into a house on the side of the road to save himself, the attackers went there and hacked him again, leaving him critically injured.

Parvej's wrist was severed in the attack.

Being rescued by locals, he was taken to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) where doctors declared him dead, said the OC.

Hazrat Ali, Ashekpur union parishad chairman and also a member of Bogra Awami League, blamed “Sagor Bahini” for the attack over establishing supremacy in the area.

The OC said that the details about the attackers could not be known immediately.

Police recovered the body, he said, adding that an investigation is underway.
