Factional clash leaves 30 Jubo Dal men injured in Chandpur

At least thirty people were injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal, the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), during a conference in Chandpur’s Faridganj upazila on Saturday afternoon.

Of them, seriously injured Arif, Rubel, and Saiful Islam were taken to Upazila Health Complex and other hospitals for treatment.

Mohsin Molla, convener of Faridganj Upazila Jubo Dal, said the conference started around 4pm in the conference room of Sholla Ashek Ali School and College of Subidpur West Union of the upazila.

He said that the conference started on time and everything was fine. “I was presiding over the conference and Imam Hossain, convenor of the municipal Jubo Dal, was the moderator.”

Moderator Imam Hossain announced the names of the speakers. The quarrel began as he did not announce the name of the joint convener of the Municipal Jubo Dal and the current presidential candidate Nazim Bhuiya.

At one stage, the supporters of Jubo Dal president candidates Imam Hossain and Nazim Bhuiya engaged in a clash. They threw chairs and vandalized some accessories, leaving 30 people injured, he added.

The conference was postponed due to the clash.

“We are monitoring the situation and it's calm now”, said Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Faridganj police station.
