Indian national detained with around 1kg gold at Chittagong airport

An Indian national was held along with 981 grams of gold at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on Monday. 

The arrestee is Jethva Tushar Nagin Das, 33, from Mumbai, India.

He was detained during a joint operation by Chittagong Custom House and customs detectives on Monday afternoon, confirmed Ahsan Ullah, deputy commissioner of Chittagong Customs House.

Acting on a tip-off, the authorities searched him after he arrived on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-152 from Sharjah. 

The search led to the recovery of 421 grams of ornaments and 560 grams of gold paste from the passenger's body.

A case will be filed against the arrested individual, who will then be handed over to Patenga police station, Ahsan Ullah added.
