Five sued over Facebook posts, comments on Sayedee

A case has been filed against five people including the upazila vice chairman for making controversial post and comments on Facebook about Mourning Day and Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee in Chapainawabganj’s Bholahat upazila.

Ahsan Habib, general secretary of upazila Chhatra League, filed the case on Wednesday night. Upazila Islami Chhatra Shibir former president Sohel Rana has been arrested for his post on Facebook.

The accused in the case are Shahnaz Shimu, 35, vice-chairman of Bholahat upazila, Sohel Rana 29, former president of the upazila student camp, Minhajul, 28, Bairul Islam, 31, and Sagar Ali, 26.

Bholahat police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Salim Reza said: “Sohail Rana posted a controversial status on Facebook on August 14 about National Mourning Day and Sayedee. The rest of the defendants commented on his post. In view of this, the plaintiff mentioned in the statement that they have been accused.”

Action will be taken subject to investigation regarding the vice chairman, he added.

On August 15, 20-25 upazila Chhatra League leaders and activists attacked and seriously injured Sohail Rana over a disputable status on his Facebook at the Bholahat Mohbullah College gate.
