A Chittagong court on Monday ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for investigation into the case against 250 individuals, for attacking, vandalizing, and setting fire to their party office in Chittagong.
Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb asked the PBI to conduct a probe and submit its report.
Earlier on Monday, BNP filed a case in a Chittagong court, for attacking, vandalizing, and setting fire to their party office in Chittagong.
The plaintiff's lawyer, Hasan Ali, said Kazi Mahmud Hossain, Nasimon Bhaban caretaker, lodged the case on behalf of BNP, listing the names of six individuals and implicating 200 to 250 unknown persons as the attackers and vandals at the BNP office.
The accused identified in the case include former Nagar Chhatra League general secretary Nurul Azim Roni, Nagar Jubo League Organizing Secretary Manowarul Alam Chowdhury Noble, Abu Khayam Taiyab, Gobindo Dash and Md Tushar and Hridoy.
Later the court directed the PBI to conduct a thorough investigation.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, around 200 to 250 individuals, led by six accused, carried out a sudden attack on BNP's Nasiman Bhaban office using firearms, iron rods, and sticks. They vandalized office furniture, causing a Tk80,000 loss, and stole a Tk1,00,000 laptop.
A complaint was filed the next day, the police did not register the case as the Kotwali police station officer in charge claimed to be sick, leading the plaintiff to approach the court as mentioned in the case affidavit.
After a BNP party program on Wednesday, their leaders and activists vandalized the election office of Mohiuddin Bachchu, Chittagong's 10 constituency candidate.
In retaliation, Awami League leaders and activists attacked and set fire to BNP's Nasiman Bhavan party office.
This led to the filing of two cases against BNP leaders and activists at Khulshi police station, resulting in the arrest of 20 to 25 BNP members.
