According to local sources and the police, the conflict arose when a jackfruit was donated to the mosque in Hasnabaz village. The fruit was auctioned in the presence of villagers within the mosque premises, where the price was negotiated. When individuals supporting Deen Islam raised concerns about not being able to hear the price, a dispute ensued between Sunu Mia and Junab Ali Gongra, who opposed them.
As a result, clashes erupted between members of Deen Islam and the supporters of Sunu Mia and Junab Ali, involving the use of local weapons. Babul Mia and Nurul Islam from the Deen Islam party were killed on the spot, while Md Shahjahan Mia, representing Sunu Mia Junab Ali Gong, sustained severe injuries and passed away while being transported to Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital.
Md Abdul Bachit Sujan, chairman of Joykals Union Parishad, expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating: "Last night and this (Monday) morning, I visited Hasnabaz village and spoke separately to both sides. Both sides assured me that they would not engage in any violent confrontations. However, I learned that a conflict occurred between them after I left for the upazila parishad meeting. It is extremely disheartening to witness such an unexpected incident over a jackfruit."
