Sonia Khatun was en route to Jessore on an easy bike, seeking medical treatment for her daughter Khadija. She was accompanied by her twin sons, as well as her mother, aunt and cousin.
An accident occurred when a bus collided with their easy bike, resulting in the death of Sonia's sons, mother, aunt and her daughter. Sonia herself is currently receiving treatment in Dhaka, while Khadija remains at Jessore General Hospital.
The collision on Friday claimed the lives of at least seven individuals, including five from Sonia's family.
The deceased were Sonia Khatun's sons Hasan and Hossain, her mother Mahima Begum, 46, her aunt Rahima Begum Mukta, 32, and Mukta's daughter Zeba Tahira, 5.
The easy bike driver, Abu Musa, 17, and another passenger, Imran, 25, were also killed in the accident.
Sonia's uncle Chhoton Hossain said Khadija had a tumour in her throat. They were going to a clinic in Jessore on Friday afternoon to have it removed through surgery. On the way, a bus from the opposite direction in the Lebutala area hit them and dragged them for some distance ahead. Five members of our family died. Apart from this, Sonia and her daughter Khadija were seriously injured. As her condition worsened, Sonia was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital later. Khadija is undergoing treatment at Jessore General Hospital.
Sonia's relatives said the deceased were to be buried at the family graveyard after a namaz-e-janaza at Jadavpur Eidgah on Saturday morning.
On the other hand, the situation was the same at the home of Saidul Islam, a resident of Sekanderpur village of Bandbila union of the same upazila. The air was heavy with the cries of relatives and neighbours.
Journalist Sirajul Islam said that his elder brother Saidul Islam's wife Rahima Begum Mukta and his daughter Zeba Tahira and other relatives tragically lost their lives. Saidul Islam, who resides in Malaysia and last visited the country a couple of months ago, said that after the funeral, they will be laid to rest at the family graveyard.
Kotwali police station Officer-In-Charge Md Tajul Islam said a case was filed over the accident. However, the bus driver and helper responsible for the incident have not yet been apprehended.
It should be noted that the accident took place near Lebutala Bridge on the Jessore-Magura road around 7:30pm on Friday.
