The two convicted killers of Rajshahi University Prof S Taher Ahmed have been executed.
Dr Miah Mohiuddin and Jahangir Alam were hanged simultaneously at 10:01pm on Thursday in Rajshahi jail.
The matter was confirmed by Senior Jail Superintendent of Rajshahi Central Jail Md Abdul Jalil.
Maulana Mujahidul Islam, imam of jail's mosque, recited the Kalima and Tawba (Islamic concept of repenting to God) for the convicts before their execution.
Family members of the two visited them in the prison on Tuesday. The two had been imprisoned for the last 17 years.
Two eight-member medical teams were formed by the jail, and the convicts underwent a physical examination before the execution.
Earlier, the Appellate Division rejected a leave-to-appeal that sought the verdict against Jahangir to be scrapped.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, passed the order.
The development left no bar to executing the two death row convicts.
