Ambulance owners withdraw strike

The Bangladesh Ambulance Owners Welfare Association has called off its nationwide strike, which was set to commence on Tuesday, after successful discussions with senior police officials.

Md Golam Mostafa, the association's president, affirmed that they had received guarantees that the ambulance services would not be subjected to police harassment on the roads.

Additionally, an “ambulance guideline” is to be established within the next three months.

In light of these reassurances, and considering the ongoing dengue situation, the strike has been rescinded.

The meeting took place at the Police Headquarters, presided over by Additional Inspector General of Police Atiqul Islam.

The Bangladesh Ambulance Owners Welfare Association called for an indefinite strike across Bangladesh, pressing home their six-point demand.

The demands of the association include that BRTA should stop charging income tax (ATI) from ambulances like private cars; policies for ambulances should be formulated; toll-free access to bridges, and ferries, Hospitals must provide ambulance parking facilities; arrangements must be made to take fuels without queues when carrying patients, harassment-free and smooth movement on the roads.
