Jamaat denied permission to hold rally in Sylhet

The Jamaat-e-Islami has not been given permission to hold a rally in Sylhet on Friday.

The rally has not been allowed due to fear of violence, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Elias Sharif told journalists on Thursday.

He said the police received Jamaat's application, scrutinized it and decided not to permit them to hold the rally.

On July 16, the Sylhet city unit of Jamaat applied to the Sylhet Metropolitan Police seeking permission to hold a rally on the Registry Ground in the city on Friday.
