Pirganj violence victims get grants from RDRS, others

RDRS Bangladesh distributed Tk3.1 lakh as grants among the 31 affected victim Hindu families from the arson attacks and violence in village Majhipara of Pirganj upazila on Thursday.

In a simple function arranged by RDRS Bangladesh with assistance of Pirganj upazila administration, Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy distributed the grants among the victim families as the chief guest.

Each of the 31 affected Hindu families received Tk10,000 in cash in the function.

Earlier, the government allocated 100 bundles of corrugated iron sheets and Tk3 lakh for house construction, and food aid for a week to assist the arson victims. Several other voluntary organizations distributed cash and foods among the victims.

Being directed by Tapan Kumar Karmaker, Executive Director of RDRS Bangladesh, its representatives visited the damaged and burnt houses and talked to the affected families and distributed the grants among them in Majhipara village to stand beside them.

Led by Head of Microenterprises of RDRS Bangladesh Rabin Chandra Mandal, its Senior Coordinator (Agriculture and Environment) Agriculturist Mamunur Rashid and officials were present.

Bangladesh Police provides assistance

Bangladesh Police on Friday provided financial assistance to the 66 arson attack and violence victim Hindu families in Baro Karimpur Majhipara village of Pirganj.

Being directed by Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Dr Benazir Ahmed, Superintendent of Police of Rangpur Biplob Kumar Sarkar distributed the cash assistance among the victim families in a function arranged at the village.

Each of the 66 affected Hindu families received Tk25,000 in the function.

Besides, the authorities of two damaged temples received Tk75,000 each and four Hindu community people Ranjet Chandra, Ramen Chandra, Purnima and Rupali were rewarded with Tk10,000 each for their bravery during the arson attacks.

Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Khairul Islam, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Circle- D) Md Kamruzzaman and other police officials were present at the function.
