A teenager has been languishing in Juvenile Correctional Centre in Jessore even though he got bail 81 days ago, as he does not have any legitimate guardian.
Ariful Islam, 16, son of late Shohail from Lalmohon upazila, Bhola, is accused of killing a woman named Kahinur Begum by stabbing her while she was sleeping in Dhapdhapiya area of Nalchity, Jhalakathi on March 8.
He was later handed over to the police by locals.
On March 9, Mohammad Bellal Sardar, husband of the deceased, filed a case against Arif and several others with Nalchity police.
On August 8, police presented him before a local court. The judge granted his bail and sent him to Jessore Juvenile Correctional Centre.
District legal aid panel lawyer Manik Acharya said: “We have submitted the bail order to the correctional centre, making my assistant Roni his legal guardian, since he doesn’t have anyone.”
After receiving the bail order, the Jhalakathi jail authorities sent it to Jessore. But since Arif does not have a legitimate guardian, the authorities did not complete the process.
“We couldn’t complete the process, as we failed to find any address or legal guardians of the accused,” said Jhalakathi Jailer Jannat-ul-Farhad.
