Hefazat-e-Islam former central joint secretary general Salimullah has been sent to jail for embezzling Tk5.5 lakh.
Chittagong Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Kamrun Nahar Rumi denied his bail petition and ordered to send him to jail on Sunday.
Confirming the matter, the plaintiff's lawyer Sheikh Al Jabed said that a case was filed by one Asaduzzaman against 11 people, including Salimullah, for embezzling Tk5.5 lakh in the name of a financial institution called Ehsan Society in Fatikchhari's Nazirhat Municipality in 2018.
Five of the accused, including Salimullah, applied for bail in the court. Except Salimullah, the court granted bail to the other four.
The other accused in the case are Mohammad Mubin bin Hasan, Maulana Jaber Hossain, Kazi Rabiul Islam, Mufti Jonain Ali, Mufti Aminul Haque, Mohammad Ashab Mia, Maulana Shahidullah, Farid Ahmed alias Bot Farid, Mohammad Habib Ullah and Nurul Alam Nuru.
Salimullah is a follower of Hefazat-e-Islam founder late Amir Allama Shafi. He was the director of Faruqia Madrasa in Fatikchhari.
