Two more cases have been recorded against the former mayor of Katakhali municipality Abbas Ali, who was suspended for making derogatory remarks on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

One of the cases accuses Abbas of demanding Tk10 lakh and vandalism. Former chairman of Hariana Union Parishad and ruling party leader Abdul Quddus filed the case with Katakhali police station on Thursday night.

The other case was lodged by municipal Jubo League Convener Johny Islam under the Digital Security Act (DSA) against Abbas for defaming Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton alongside Bangabandhu.
Officer-in-Charge Siddiqur Rahman said that they had recorded the complaints. The accused would be shown arrested in the new cases following a court order, he added.

Suspended as the mayor and expelled from the party, Abbas is currently kept at the Dhaka Central Jail following his arrest by Rapid Action Battalion on December 1 in another DSA case. He was remanded for three days in the case.
