As many as nine Awami League leaders have been expelled from the party for contesting against a boat symbol candidate in the Union Parishad (UP) elections in Bogra.
Among them, five are from three unions of Kahalu upazila, three from two unions of Nandigram upazila and the other is from Erulia area of the sadar, said a press release by district unit Awami League Office Secretary Al Razi Jewel on Friday.
This has caused dissatisfaction among the leaders and workers at the field level.

According to Jewel, 40 people have been sacked from their posts on the recommendation of the grassroots leaders for taking a stand against the party-nominated candidates in the UP polls.
“Besides, we have asked the central committee to take stricter organizational measures against them for violating party discipline,” Jewel said.
