A woman in Khulna has been denied the job of a police constable due to not having a permanent address, just a few days after a similar case of one Aspiya Islam Kajal in Barisal caused quite a stir on social media.
Eighteen-year-old Mim Akter lives with her family in a rented house in Sonadanga of Khulna. Mim claimed she recently passed all the steps of the recruitment test with flying colours.
But on Saturday, she was informed that she would not be getting the job as she does not have a permanent address in Khulna, said Mim.
“They took my fingerprints at the district police lines on December 7 but did not give me any updates afterwards… Then I went to the offices of the superintendent of police on Saturday.
“After 2-3 hours, Additional Superintendent Tanvir Ahmed told me that everything was alright but they are unable to give me the job as I do not have a permanent address in Khulna.”
Mim’s father, Rabiul Islam, said his ancestral home is in Bagerhat but he does not have a property to his name. “Now my daughter will not get the job because I am landless,” he lamented.
Additional Superintendent Ahmed said: “The girl [Mim] is the perfect candidate; she even ranked first in the merit list. However, we cannot give her the job due to police regulations.”
Meanwhile, Khulna district police chief Md Mahbub Hasan said that in her application Mim mentioned that her permanent address is in Khulna but it is actually in Bagerhat.
“She hid the information,” Superintendent Hassan before adding Mim failed to clear the medical test as well.
