Seven workers of a cotton factory suffered burn injuries when fire broke out in Narayanjganj’s Bandar.
The incident occurred on Friday morning in the Dhamgor Monirbari area.
Upon being informed of the incident, four units of Fire Services rushed to the spot to put out the fire.
The seven injured have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Seven others who suffered from smoke inhalation were given first aid.
It was learned that the fire started from a cotton making machine at 7.30 am on Friday.
Cotton mill owner Jewel Hossain said the cotton from his mill was exported abroad. Fire damaged four units of the mill, including machines, cotton and raw materials, causing losses of about Tk13 crore.
More than 200 workers worked at the mill, but now they will be unemployed as the mill was damaged in the fire, he said.
Abdul Hossain, station officer of Bandar Fire Service, said that they rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours of effort.
"It took a long time to put out the fire," he said.
The amount of damage will be ascertained after investigation, he added.
