16 accused remanded over Chittagong Durga Puja pavillion attack

A Chittagong court on Monday placed 16 accused on one-day remand each in a case filed over the recent attack on a Durga Puja pavilion at the JM Sen Hall in the port city.

Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Hossain Mohammad Reza passed the order after a hearing.

Officer-in-Charge Md Nezam Uddin of Kotwali police station said they had applied for a seven-day remand plea before the court to interrogate the accused. 

The accused are Iftekhar Uddin, Touhidul Alam, Khalid bin Walid, Syed Moin Uddin, Delwar Hossain, Masud Parvez, Mohammad Humayun, Jahedul Islam, Mohammad Russell, Nurul Islam, Mohammad Sohag, Jabed Hossain, Ayub Ali, Amir Hossain, Khorshed Alam and Omar Farooq.

On October 18, another court ordered the remand of 10 people arrested in the case filed under the Special Powers Act against 83 named and at least 500 unnamed people over the incident. 

On October 15, after Jumma prayers at Anderkilla Shahi Jame Masjid, hundreds of Muslims brought out a procession protesting the recent incident involving the Holy Quran in Comilla. They attempted to attack the Puja venue at the city's JM Sen Hall, tore down banners and posters, and attacked the police.
