A court in Gazipur has ruled in favour of a college teacher, reinstating him as the principal after an 11-year-long legal battle.
On September 30, the court of Gazipur’s Senior Judge 5 ordered to reinstate Md Tofazzal Hossain Akand as the principal of Sreepur Degree College (now the Sreepur Muktijoddha Rahmat Ali Government College), said plaintiff’s counsel AM Amanullah Farid.
Akand, however, is yet to return to work as the college authorities have challenged the trial court’s verdict in a higher court.
“Md Tofazzal Hossain Akand stepped down as the principal of his own volition on March 28, 2009. But he moved the court over a year later in May 2010,” said counsel Emdadul Haque Masum, who represents the college authorities.
The court has accepted to hear the appeal and the education department has been notified over it, he said.
Sreepur upazila administration chief (UNO) Tariqul Islam, who heads the management committee of the college, that copies of the trial court verdict as well as documents on the appeal against it have reached him.
“The education department is yet to issue a notification allowing him to return to work”, he said.
