A man has abandoned his wife’s body at a hospital in Sylhet's Habiganj after doctors found multiple injury marks and declared her dead.
Al Amin brought his wife Sumona to Habiganj Sadar Hospital after reportedly beating her on Monday night. He fled as soon as the doctors declared that she had died.
Habiganj Sadar Hospital Resident Medical Officer Molla Obaidur Reza confirmed that the deceased’s body bore evidence of multiple injuries. The cause of death would be determined after an autopsy.
After Sumona’s family went to the hospital on Tuesday and saw the injury marks on her body, they contacted police.
“My niece’s husband tortured her to death. That’s why he left Sumona’s body in the hospital and fled,” said the deceased’s uncle Abdur Rahman.
Meanwhile, Baniyachang Police OC Emran Hossain said: “I heard she poisoned herself. If murder allegations are brought, then steps will be taken according to the autopsy report.”
According to locals, Al Amin married Sumona nearly five years ago. The couple had recently been fighting over family disputes.
