Faridpur teenager acts as additional SP for an hour

A 15-year-old girl took over the role of additional superintendent of police for an hour as a symbol of empowerment on the International Day of the Girl Child.

Hafsa Binte Haider, the daughter of Md Haider Ali of Char Kamalapur, took over the duties of Additional SP of Faridpur Sadar Circle Suman Ranjan Das on Monday.

The initiative was taken by non-government organization Plan International and the National Children Taskforce (NCTF) to encourage the empowerment of women and raise awareness about the rights of women and children.

The takeover is a part of the global #GirlsTakeover, a signature activity of Plan International.

As she stepped into the role, Hafsa said: It's an honour for me to take this responsibility. This will be a memorable day for me.”

Hafsa also asserted that she is committed to fighting child abuse, child marriage, and violence against women.

Additional SP Suman said that members of law-enforcement agencies are constantly working to help prevent child abuse and child marriage.

General Secretary of National Children's Taskforce of Faridpur district Md Tushar Abdullah, child researcher Shahreen Islam Mahin, child journalist Shamim Ahmed and several others also attended the campaign program.

As of now, 40 out of 64 districts across the country are actively participating in this campaign.
