State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan on Monday said that religious leaders must avoid provocative statements in “waz mahfils” that are contradictory to the Holy Quran.
“All of us must uphold and nurture ethical values within ourselves to harness communal harmony and spread it to the grassroots level,” he said while addressing a program at the Bhola deputy commissioner’s office.
The state minister said that a quarter based here and abroad always try to destabilize the country by hurting religious sentiments.
“These people must be identified and brought to book,” he said, urging all to work with the law enforcers and administration in this regard.
He also urged everyone to stay alert so that opportunistic people cannot misuse religion ahead of the national election and their efforts on social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube must also be restricted.
“In line with the prime minister’s directives, we have already talked to the ICT Division to identify and catch these miscreants who hurt religious sentiments and harmony,” added State Minister Khan.
He cautioned: “Anyone from any religious background involved in such unjust and criminal activities subversive to the constitution will be brought to book.”
Leaders of local Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian communities, government and law enforcement officials also attended the program on Monday.
