Black and white stripes have truly taken over Gazipur’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park with the arrival of a new zebra foal on Monday.
The safari park has welcomed a total of eight zebra foals this year, say authorities.
Both mother and son have been in good health since birth. And the foal has been roaming around to explore his new home, according to Assistant Forest Conservator Tabibur Rahman, the in-charge of the Bangabandu Safari Park.
“The mother zebra's diet has been changed to make it more nutritionally dense, in order to help restore her health after giving birth,” he said.
Apart from her usual grass, she is also given chickpeas, carrots, and other grains.
The total number of zebras in the park is 31 including the new foals. Of these, 15 are male and 16 are female zebras.
Even though zebra foals are delicate newborns, Rahman said the zebra breeding in the park is promising. As long as this trend persists, it may be possible to meet domestic zebra demand and export it abroad.
