AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, the Awami League's mayoral candidate for the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election, has announced his manifesto, with 105 promises across 10 key sectors.
The former mayor, who is looking to become elected for the second consecutive term in office, unveiled his manifesto on Saturday at a gathering at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Liton's promises cover a broad range of sectors, including education, health services, industry and commerce, transport and infrastructure, expansion of sports and cultural activities, religious institutions and social initiatives, climate and entertainment facilities, development for disabled and underprivileged people, preservation of Liberation War and heritage, special incentives for the elderly and children, and social security and women's development.
As part of his efforts to reduce unemployment, the Awami League-backed candidate highlighted in his manifesto a multi-faceted plan to create a peaceful and prosperous metropolitan city with extensive job creation and entrepreneurship.
Liton also expressed his desire to establish Rajshahi city as a top tourist destination based on the entire Barind Tract, uphold the city's cultural and educational richness, expand the geographical area from 96 square kilometres to 350 square kilometres, and build a river city on the rising chars of the Padma River.
Mayoral and councillor candidates began their campaigns after receiving their electoral symbols on Friday.
The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election will take place on June 21 via electronic voting machines (EVMs) across 1,173 booths in 152 polling stations.
Out of the 352,157 registered voters in the city, which includes 171,185 men and 180,972 women, 30,157 will be exercising their franchise for the first time.
