Fugitive accused arrested in Bogra

Detective Branch (DB) police arrested a fugitive who escaped from the Bogra court premises by opening his handcuffs, from a jungle in Bogra's Nowdapara on Monday.

The arrestee is Ilyas alias Imran, 32, son of Jahangir Alam Afzal of Nawdapara in Bogra Sadar. 

Bogra DB Police Incharge (Inspector) Saihan Oliullah informed this in a press release this afternoon.

Gabtali police station Officer-in-Charge and other officials said: "On Saturday Ilyas was arrested from Chakbochai village of Gabtali upazila in a motorcycle theft case."

"On Sunday afternoon, the police van arrived at Bogra court premises with five accused. After being dropped from the car, Imran managed to escape by opening the handcuffs while being taken into court custody," the police official said. 

Bogra DB Police Incharge (Inspector) Saihan Oliullah said: "After escaping from the court premises, Imran ran away to different areas of Gabtali upazila and Bogra Sadar. Several teams of police conducted operations to arrest Imran. In the end, he took refuge in an abandoned factory in a forest in Sadar's Nowdapara."

He also said: "He is a professional thief. He was arrested through sources. Gabtali police station SI Royal Hossain filed a case against him in Sadar police station in the case of absconding from the court. Later he was sent to Bogra jail in the afternoon through the court."

Additional Police Superintendent (Administration) Akhtar said: "The matter is being investigated whether there is any negligence on the part of police. Legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty."
