Gas supply to households resume in Chittagong

Gas supply has resumed in Chittagong households after two-day disruption.

Many households in Chittagong couldn't light their stoves since Saturday morning as the government suspended gas supply from two floating LNG terminals in Moheshkhali from 11pm on Friday night due to cyclone Mocha.

The gas supply to the CNG filling station still remains closed.

There was no possibility of gas delivery to the CNG station if the gas supply from the two floating LNG terminals fully resumes.

However, Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) officials have indicated that gas delivery to CNG stations will resume after 11pm.

Meanwhile, due to the disruption in gas delivery at CNG stations, gas-powered vehicles are not seen on the roadways.

As a result, regular passengers face difficulties.  Others use alternative fuels such as LPG and octane.

Roshmi Akhtar, a resident of the Agrabad area, told the Dhaka Tribune that there was no gas since Sunday morning.  For two days, she brought the food from the grocery several times and also cooked food in a rice cooker. Now, she is cooking at home as the gas supply resumed in the afternoon.

Md Rafiqul Islam, Managing Director KGDCL said that the gas supply has begun in the houses.  It will gradually become normal.  Gas delivery at CNG stations is scheduled to begin by 11pm.
