A three-member investigation committee has been formed to find out the cause of the recent diarrhoea outbreak in Chittagong.
District Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ilyas Chowdhury formed the committee on Thursday. Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Md Wazed Chowdhury was made the president of the committee.
As many as 232 diarrhoea patients were hospitalized in 24 hours.
Besides, miking is being done in every upazila for cleanliness to prevent diarrhoea.
Efforts are being made to make the villagers aware by holding yard meetings in the area. Health officials requested villagers to avoid street and stale food.
However, residents of Chittagong have complained that water-borne diseases including diarrhoea are caused due to excessive salinity in Chittagong Wasa water.
Civil surgeon office sources said as many as 232 people were admitted with diarrhoea in 14 upazila health complexes of 15 upazilas of the district on Saturday.
Out of this, 15 patients have been admitted in Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex, 14 in Sitakunda, 1 in Sandwip, 14 in Fatikchari, 8 in Hathajari, 11 in Raujan, 10 in Rangunia, 23 in Boalkhali, 29 in Anwara, 30 in Patia, 16 in Bansakhali, 33 in Chandanish, 12 in Satkania and 16 in Lohagara.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ilyas Chowdhury said: "Diarrhoea patients are being treated at upazila health complexes. Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers have been instructed to prepare one team in each union of the upazila and five in the upazila health complex. Most of the patients are getting better in a day. Some are taking longer."
