Upazila Mahila Awami League General Secretary Roshan Ara Rita has been fined Tk10,000 for allegedly placing bamboo at Shaheed Minar in Tangail's Sakhipur upazila.
A mobile court led by Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farzana Alam imposed the fine on Monday afternoon.
Rita held the responsibility of managing the Boisakhi Mela and Eid Anand Festival for seven days at the upazila parishad ground adjacent to Shaheed Minar.
According to mobile court sources: "To mark the May Day Tangail's various labour organizations went to place flowers and wreaths at Shaheed Minar in the morning. But there were some piles of bamboo in the Shaheed Minar adjacent to the upazila ground. Later, people posted some pictures on social media criticizing the incident."
When the incident came to the light of UNO, she fined Upazila Mahila Awami League General Secretary Roshan Ara Rita and owner of a local decoration Ferdous Ahmed.
Roshan Ara Rita said: "The bamboos were placed near the Shaheed Minar after the seven-day fair at the upazila parishad ground. I did not know who placed those bamboos in Shaheed Minar."
