10 fishermen murder: Two placed on 5-day remand

A Cox's Bazar court on Wednesday placed two accused of murdering 10 fishermen on a trawler floating off Nazirertek Beach in Cox's Bazar, on a five-day remand each.

The two accused are Kamal Prakash Baitta and Karim Shikdar. Both of them are residents of the Matarbari area.

Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate (Ukhiya) Srigyan Tanchanga passed the order after police placed them before the court, seeking a seven-day remand on Wednesday.

Rokeya Begum, wife of trawler owner Shamsul Alam, filed the case as the plaintiff, naming four people and 50-60 unidentified persons on Tuesday. The two accused were arrested on Tuesday. The other two accused mentioned in the statement are Anwar Hossain and Babul Majhi of Matarbari.

Cox's Bazar Sadar police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Durjoy Biswas, said: “The accused are being remanded after receiving the court order. At the same time, five teams of police are working in the field to arrest the other two accused in the incident.”

On Sunday, 10 decomposed bodies of fishermen were found on a trawler loathing off Nazirertek Beach in Cox's Bazar.

According to local fishermen, a few days ago a group of robbers attacked the trawler, looting and killing the fishermen onboard, before putting them inside the trawler's deck and making a hole in it.
