A man was killed and four people were injured following a blast of a methane gas cylinder in an ice mill in Baufal upazila of Patuakhali on Tuesday night.
The deceased was Rasel Khan, 37, an assistant director of the ice mill, while the injured workers are Premananda Das, 55, Krishna Rani, 40, Ibrahim, 29, and Afzal, 50.
Officer-in-Charge of Baufal police station ATM Arichul Haque said that the incident took place around 11:30pm at Khan Barfkal in the Kalaiya Launchghat area.
The workers said they repaired an ice-making machine as there was a technical glitch in the machine.
After repair work, when the machine was turned on, there was a loud explosion, they said.
The gas spread to the entire machine room after the explosion.
All the staffers, except Rasel, managed to come out of the room.
On information, a team of Doshmina fire service rushed to the spot and they recovered Rasel's body from the spot.
The four injured people were first taken to Baufal Upazila Health Complex from where they were shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
