Clash over capturing govt khash land leaves one dead in Brahmanbaria

A man was killed in a clash between two rival groups over capturing khas land in Brahmanbaria's Nasirnagar upazila on Saturday.

The incident took place in the New Market area of Khagalia village of the upazila at 7pm on the day of Eid.

The deceased was identified as Jamal Mia, 25, son of Khorshed Mia of Khagalia village in Valakut union of the upazila.

At least 30 people were injured in the clash. 

Md Habibullah, officer-in-charge of Nasirnagar police station, confirmed the matter. 

Quoting locals, police said that there was a long-standing dispute between the supporters of Rob Miah, the current member of Valakut UP, and former UP member Abdul Hamid, over government khas land in Khagalia New Market area.

A case over the issue is also under trial in the court.

As the number of people from both sides came home during the Eid holidays, both sides got involved in a dispute to take possession of the land, said police.

Jamal Miah, a supporter of Rob Miah, was injured in the clash and died on the spot.
