Three children were killed in separate lightning strikes in Jaintiapur upazila in Sylhet on Friday.
Among them, two children died at Bisnatek village of Darbast Union of the upazila at 11:30am and one child died at Banglabazar Bengal Stone Crusher 4 no area of Jaintapur Union at 5:30pm.
According to local sources, a lightning strike occurred during the rain in Bisnatek village at 11:30am on Friday.
At that time, Naeem Ahmed, 8, son of Soleman Ahmed of that village, and Anjuma Begum, 6, daughter of late Delwar Hossain of the same village, were hit by a thunderbolt and injured critically.
Locals rescued the two children and took them to the Jaintiapur Upazila Health Complex where a duty doctor declared them dead.
On the same day around 5:30 pm, Emon Ahmed, 10, son of Alam Mia of Banglabazar village, was struck by lightning in Banglabazar Bengal Stone Crusher area.
He died on the spot.
Jaintiapur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ripa Moni Devi said: "The families of the children have been given Tk 20,000 by the district administration."
