Death in RAB custody: Jasmine's autopsy report handed over to police

The forensic department of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) handed over the autopsy report of Naogaon land office employee Sultana Jasmine, who died in Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) custody, to the police on Sunday.

After Jasmin's death, a three-member medical board conducted an autopsy at RMCH's morgue on March 25.

Dr Kofil Uddin, head of the forensic department of RMCH, said: "The autopsy report is prepared and handed over to the police on Sunday.”

Dr Kofil Uddin said when asked what was given as the cause of Jasmine's death in the autopsy report: "It is a serious issue. I can't directly say anything about it. If you somehow manage to read the report, then let me know what you don't understand and I'll explain. I can't say anything about it now.”

Rajpara police station Sub-Inspector Subhash Chandra Burman, investigating officer of the case, denied receiving the report.

He advised to talk to senior officials about this.

Police Inspector (Investigation) Ruhul Amin, who is the officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajpara police station, said: "The investigating officer informed me that the report had been received. I didn't enquire as to the status of the report. If the report is presented to the court, everyone will know.

Earlier on March 22, RAB arrested land office employee Sultana Jasmine in Naogaon after Joint Secretary Enamul Haque, working in the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's office, filed a complaint. After four hours of the arrest, RAB took Jasmine to Naogaon Sadar Hospital when she fell ill. From there she was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. She died there on March 24.

Jasmine's family alleged that Jasmine died due to torture in RAB custody. However, denying the allegations, RAB said that the 45-year-old had fallen ill after the arrest.
